Crisis resources
What’s a crisis? The definition varies from person to person but you may be experiencing a mental health crisis if:
You believe you may harm yourself or others
You feel unable to control your thoughts, feelings, or actions
You’re unable to lower your level of distress on your own
Your coping skills aren’t working
You have difficulty functioning (eating, taking a shower, going to class/work, etc.)
If you are in crisis, please contact any of the following hotlines:
Trans LifeLine* - 877-565-8860
BlackLine* (for BIPOC) - 1-800-604-5841
The Trevor Project - 1-866-488-7386
THRIVE Lifeline* (for adults within marginalized communities) - text “THRIVE” to 313-662-8209
National Sexual Assault Hotline* - 800-656-4673
HAWC Sexual Assault Hotline* (for Gulf Coast area) - 713-528-7273
Harris Center Crisis Line (for Harris County) - 713-970-7000
Crisis Intervention of Houston (for Gulf Coast area) - 832-416-1177
*these organizations do not contact law enforcement without your explicit consent
Calling 911 is also an option. However, most police officers are not adequately trained to deal with mental health crises, and historically, police involvement carries an increased risk of violence and death, especially for BIPOC and LGBTQ+ individuals. Please reach out to whichever organization(s) feel safest to you.
